正直、このCDを入手出来ただけで既に☆５つです（笑）。1974年11月秋田県民会館最前列、わずか５ｍ程先にとても人間技とは思えぬ速さと正確さでティンバルを打ち続けるアフロヘアのチェピートとの遭遇を今でもはっきり覚えています。三角形の異様にでかいピックでこれまた神業の如くギターを弾きまくるカルロス、２時間以上に及ぶ演奏中、曲間があったのは確か１度だけだったように記憶していますが。あれ以上”壮絶”なLIVEにはその後、一度も経験出来ずにいます（もちろん以降のサンタナ来日公演もほとんど行きましたが）。このソロアルバムの発売もこの公演直後くらいにML誌で知ったと思いますが、当時高校生だった小生にはそれを買うほどの余裕は無く、大人になってからはLPは入手困難＆高価、CDでの再発も無かったため今回は正に待望の一言！角松敏生さんが本盤に寄せて「この良さは、わかる人にはわかるが、わからない人には全くわからないと思う」と心配されていますが、本盤を購入する方はほぼ１００％サンタナファンですから十二分に楽しめること請け合いです。POPな「モーニング・スター」には絶妙な口直し感がありますし「グアグアンコー・イン・ジャパン」を聴きながら”当時のやんちゃチェピートを虜にした日本娘はどんなタイプだったのかと想像するのも楽しい限り（笑）。それよりなにより全編に響くチェピートのティンバル音との再会だけで嬉しくなります。改めて思い返すと小生が好きなサンタナはチェピートが在籍していた時期に見事に重なると今更ながら気づきました。さて、同時に発売となった「SANTANA」SA-CDマルチ・ハイブリット盤の出来や如何に。こちらもメチャクチャ楽しみです。, デビュー当初のサンタナにおいては、マイク・シュリーヴの独特なグルーブ感あるドラムを中心にホセ・チェピートの炸裂するティンバレスによるリズムが最大の魅力だった、と個人的には思う。サンタナのギターはまだ不安定だったし、ヴォーカルも微妙だったし。.
