The Lewis Lake Trailhead is very scenic at 1.6 miles offers the shortest route to the summit. There were lots of dogs doing it though!

I ended up parking at the next parking area (Tipple Trailhead) due to a lack of parking at the West Lake Marie one. There are several different trailheads that will take you to the summit. It lies within Medicine Bow National Forest and is the highest point in southern Wyoming. Eventually you’ll get along the lower ridge, granting you access to the northern panoramic views. The higher you go, the more you can see in the valleys below, which contain several more scattered lakes.
The most prominent peak to the north is Elk Mountain. The descent after the peak was extremely steep and rocky; the trail itself is very narrow and completely exposed. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from June until November. We didn’t make it to the TH until 7:45-8ish, but there was still some room along the perimeter of the parking lot. The West Lake Marie parking area was still packed, but the Tipple parking area was mostly cleared out. You’ll see several of the poles in many of the pictures throughout this hike. I made it to the top and back around (we went up the south side, and came down the north side) in about 8 hours, though this included sitting at the summit for a while. Still a solid day hike! Stopped and soaked our feet in one of the lakes back down to “ice” our feet. The parking area at the trailhead is moderate, with room for maybe 20 vehicles. And then when we split that into parts there is even more estimation and rounding. Adding those two together gives us 5.2 miles for the total distance from the Lake Marie Trailhead to the Lewis Lake Trailhead. Laramie Peak Area The Laramie Peak area is located in east central Wyoming, stretching from southeast of Casper to west of Wheatland. Well worth the energy required to complete it. There is a fee of $5 per vehicle for each day if you park in the Sugar Loaf Recreation Area (near Lewis and Libby Lake). The article here states it is 3.6 miles. Tough hike, it felt like rock climbing a lot of times.
I started at Lewis Lake parking lot so added a couple extra miles. There was much premeditation by the passengers before the took the flight..recently body parts were taken to have CO. test done. From the trailhead, you begin very gradual, but then starting gaining elevation over a series of switchback that provide a lot of good views from the west, south and east. Great photo op, always snow on the peaks...all year round.
The views going up were decent, but descending and hiking next to the lakes was extremely gorgeous.

Medicine Bow Peak has 4 different trailheads that lead to the summit with hikes ranging from 1.6 - 7.5 miles and up to a 2,000 ft elevation gain. There were quite a bit of patches of snow along the trail which you’ll see below. It will also take you past an old lookout cabin. The most commonly used trail to the peak is a four-mile hike featuring switch-backs and a great deal of loose rock. The views are fantastic throughout the entire hike, but going counterclockwise in the early morning is pretty spectacular as the sun hits the mountain and reflects onto the lakes. Beautiful vistas, and easy to visit....not a bad picture from any angle... Mountains as always are beautiful, there late June early July, mountains still had lots of snow., allowing folks to still ski, snowmobile, and play. Summer conditions can be extreme, with frequent thunderstorms and hail during the afternoons. I arrived back at the parking area around 3:57PM, roughly 2hours to get back. Medicine Bow Peak has great views and the trail wanders right through a few beautiful lakes. This hike definitely exceeded our expectations and we will be up here again.
